Manchester City v Shakhtar Donetsk Betting Tips – 26th September 2017

Two unbeaten sides in the Champions League go head to head as Shakhtar Donetsk travel to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City. The Ukrainian side will know that they are in for a tough test given the way Pep Guardiola’s side have been playing of late but they will take confidence from a 2-1 win over Napoli on Matchday 1.

Goals from Taison and Facundo Ferreyra were enough for the exiled side to beat Napoli who were a side tipped to be dark horses in this year’s competition. They trail City on goal difference thanks to a 4-0 win for Guardiola’s outfit against Feyenoord and of all the batterings handed out by the likes of PSG and Real Madrid, City’s was the most impressive.

Whether they can win as comfortably again remains to be seen but they will want to build on the platform they have made for themselves. The Sky Blues may well fancy their chances of going deep into this year’s tournament and another win here would certainly help that.

Betting Predictions

  • Over 3.5 goals - Manchester City have been banging in the goals this season and they have scored a whopping 17 goals in their last four matches across all competitions. In front of their own fans at the Etihad they will want to put on a show and given the way City demolished Feyenoord, Shakhtar will be worried. We think there will be plenty of goals in this one with over 3.5 goals priced at decent odds of evens with Betfair.
  • Manchester City to win - Pep Guardiola appears to have come across a way in which he can get all of his attacking stars into the starting eleven and with Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero in form they will take some stopping. Their Ukrainian visitors are no mugs by any stretch of the imagination but we reckon that City will have enough in the tank to beat them. A win for the home side is available at 1/5 with Betfred which doesn’t really offer a lot of value but might be a good pick for an acca.
  • Manchester City to win 3-1 - Given that we went safe backing a City win, we will stick our necks out a bit and back them to win 3-1. They have the ability to create plenty of chances and we think that they will be able to put Shakhtar to the sword. That said, Donetsk have been in great form themselves and if they play like they did against Napoli then a goal for them isn’t out of the question. A 3-1 home win looks attractive at 9/1 with Ladbrokes.
  • Manchester City/Manchester City Half time/Full time - With City being such big favourites, finding value in this one can be a little tricky. However, the 4/6 on the home side leading at half time and going on to win looks decent at 4/6 with Bet365.
