Arsenal v Everton Betting Tips – 21st May 2017

The empty seats at the Emirates during Tuesday night’s game against Sunderland told their own story. Large swathes of Arsenal season ticket holders decided that they would not turn up to the game in protest at the way that the club is being led. While 99% of football fans would be happy to be sitting fifth in the Premier League, it’s not enough for a set of fans who had become used to challenging for league titles and it now looks as though Arsenal will also miss out on Champions League football for the first time in over 20 years.

Arsene Wenger has been pilloried in the past for claiming that finishing fourth is better than winning a trophy. However, the Arsenal boss has come in for more criticism this season than ever before despite the fact that they’re just one game away from winning the FA Cup. A series of poor performances this season have convinced an ever growing number of Arsenal fans that the club would be better off without Wenger but it seems as though he will sign a two year contract extension no matter what happens in the closing stages of this season.

Everton fans can sympathise with Arsenal fans to a certain degree. A year ago it had become clear that support for then manager Roberto Martinez was wearing thin and few Evertonians were upset to see him depart the club in the summer. There are no such concerns about the management of the team now. There is no question that Ronald Koeman has improved the team considerably and there is a quiet confidence around the club that they’ll break into the top six next season.

Betting Predictions

  • Arsenal to win - One of the most frustrating things for Arsenal fans is the way that their team traditionally finish strongly under Wenger. It’s not that they’re unhappy to see the team win, it’s just that Gooners wonder why they can’t pick up results in the middle part of the season when they tend to fade away. The 2-0 win over Sunderland made it four wins on the trot for Arsenal and they are the bookies’ favourites for another win on Sunday. Everton haven’t exactly hit the beach early but they’ve lost two from three and will find it hard to avoid defeat against Arsenal who are 4/9 with Bet365.
  • Under 2.5 goals - One area where Koeman has really strengthen Everton is in defence. That’s unsurprising given he was a world class defender but the way he’s turned Everton from a side who would routinely throw goals away into the fifth best defence in the league is very impressive. Arsenal may pick up the three points on Sunday but Everton won’t be giving them anything so back under 2.5 goals at 11/10 with Coral.
  • First half to have most goals - Arsenal know that there is very little chance of them forcing a way into the top four on Sunday. Come half time the scores in the Liverpool and Man City game may have completely shut the door. There’s a chance the second half will feel like a testimonial so bet on the first half having most goals at 12/5 with Ladbrokes.
