Arsenal v Chelsea Betting Tips – 6th August 2017

The Community Shield, English football’s traditional curtain raiser for the new season, takes place at Wembley Stadium on Sunday. This year it is a rematch of May’s FA Cup final between Arsenal and the Premier League champions Chelsea. The Blues go into the match as the bookies’ favourites but the Gunners will be confident of a repeat of their FA Cup success. Arsene Wenger’s team have a wonderful record at the national stadium and a positive record over Chelsea since Antonio Conte took over so they’ll be aiming for a big result to kick their season off.

It felt for much of last season that Wenger would finally be calling time on his spell as Arsenal manager. The team’s failure to qualify for the Champions League felt like the final straw but the Frenchman signed a new contract and has been busy with the board trying to strengthen the squad for the coming season. Alexandre Lacazette has already signed for a big fee and it appears that more players will arrive before the transfer window shuts. There are concerns about the future of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil but Wenger is largely happy with the players at his disposal.

Despite being the best team in the country by some distance last season, Chelsea head into the new campaign in a bit of a pickle. More players have left the club than have been signed and with injuries to some key players, the Blues’ squad is threadbare. Conte has also missed out on a few of his first choice signings already and is still putting in the hard work behind the scenes whilst having to prepare his players for their title defence. A couple of wins and some signings will make everything look ok for Chelsea but for now there is plenty still to do.

Betting Predictions

  • Arsenal to win - Having already sewn up the Premier League title it was perhaps no surprise that Chelsea found motivation a bit of a problem for the FA Cup final. But take nothing away from Arsenal who were full value for the win. A few months on and the Gunners could once again capitalise on a Chelsea team who are less than 100% focussed on the job at hand. Wembley is like a second home for Arsenal and they look good value for another win at the national stadium at 23/10 with BetVictor.
  • Both teams to score - Although Arsenal deserved the win in May, Chelsea played their part in a highly entertaining match and they should make a game of it once again. The Blues are struggling for players but you can be sure that those who take to the field at Wembley will be top quality, especially in attacking positions. So, make sure to have a bet on both teams to score which is 8/13 with Bet365.
  • Olivier Giroud to score - It looked as though Olivier Giroud was set to leave Arsenal over the summer but he’s staying put and is keen to prove he has a vital role to play for the Gunners. Giroud can remind everyone of his prowess in front of goal by scoring at 2/1 with Betfred.
